Suspected Containing Cadmium “Shrek McDonald” Glasses Withdrawn

Toxic cadmium have been found in the painted design in “Shrek”-themed drinking glasses sold at McDonald’s throughout the United States and Canada market. The Company was forced to pull back a glass that has sold 13.4 million on the market. Glass in four designs that depict the characters of Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots, and Donkey in “Shrek Forever After” has a weight of 16 ounces, sold for about two dollars as part of a promotional campaign for the film. Consumer Product Safety Commission United States (The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) informed that the use of long-term to cadmium can cause adverse health effects. Cadmium is a carcinogen known that research shows can also cause severe softening of the bones and kidneys. Spokesperson fast-food restaurant McDonald’s USA, Bill Whitman, said, “Cadmium used to create the red and yellow colors. Scars existing color in the glass may contain content cadmium substance.”

CPSC said it would send instructions to the McDonald’s on next week about refunds to consumers. CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson, “A very small amount of cadmium that can rise to the surface of the glass, and to protect children, the CPSC and McDonald’s are working together to attract and check these glasses.” He added that would not determine the amount of cadmium that leached from the paint in that test, but said the number was slightly above the level recommended by the agency which is developing the level of cadmium that may be used at this time.

Shrek glasses manufactured by ARC International Millville, NJ, the glass must be sold from May 21 until June. To this day, about seven million cups have been sold.
